It's a free, lightweight, multilingual virtual on-screen keyboard.

There's nothing confusing about what this application is or does. Even its name clearly says it, it's a virtual keyboard provided for free.

It lets you type using your mouse, just like any virtual keyboard does.

I'm having trouble discerning what makes this application better, or at least different, than the default on-screen keyboard provided by Windows. Free Virtual Keyboard comes with few remarkable additional features. It lets you tweak its transparency level (the default on-screen keyboard has a rather similar function called “fade”), change the color style of the keyboard, and switch its size preset. In full-screen mode it will automatically resize to fit the width of the screen which means that this virtual keyboard works in both landscape and portrait orientation.

Another remarkable benefit would be its automatic auto-repeat function that types keys repeatedly when they're pressed continuously. But that's pretty much all of it.

Free Virtual Keyboard is also a fully portable tool that can be easily carried around and run from a removable USB stick.

This app proves to be of true help on systems that come equipped with touchscreens. Its keys can be larger than the ones of the default virtual keyboard featured by such systems, therefore it can also be easier to use. Since it's also free, I'd say it's worth a try, especially on such cases, even if I maintain my initial opinion that there's not much difference between this tool and the default virtual keyboards installed on your system.
